Weekly Update

It’s all fun and games until you don’t stick a fish…

That was the story of the day yesterday…

The last week has brought us over 20” of snow, and below freezing temps for days on end. With a one day reprieve on the temps and snow, Mike decided to make a last minute trip up on Friday to get some time on the water Saturday. The temps were supposed to get above 40 degrees, and with another 2 feet of snow forecasted in the coming week, we figured this may be the last opportunity for some fish in the coming months…

By 9AM, we had gotten to the stream out east, and hiked into the hole we’ve frequented over the years…we broke out the 3” shelf ice and waited for the slush to melt off…and waited…and waited…

Finally at noon, and with no sign of a let up, we decided to move onto another body of water for a last ditch effort at some fish. We found a semi empty parking lot and hiked into some open water and finished off the day drifting eggs and nymphs. The afternoon brought some murky conditions, as the mid day temps began to melt off a lot of the snow we had gotten…

Fingers crossed, the rivers won’t lock up, though it looks like between the swollen streams and low temps we’ll be tying flies for the next few months…

Here’s some of the scenery and shots from yesterday….

I could have been home cleaning the bathroom... Good to get out and see you guys again despite the lack of cooperation on the part of the fish!
