Well…I actually did more fishing this week then I have in the last month combined, which is pretty good to say…and it feels great…
Started off Monday with a trip back to the pond in the kayak to see if I could dredge up a few more perch for that perfect photo opportunity…a fish I’ve not really had a chance to mess with behind a lens…
Never happened, but I did manage to bag a nice fall large mouth that must’ve tipped the scales at about 4lbs…
Mid week brought a shore trip to the pond again with a neighbor. He managed a decent fish on some top water spinning stuff, while I pulled 3 small juvenile bass out with a bugger.
The weekend had us up along Lake Erie. I did pull out the fly rod for some early fall smallies but wasn’t able to find any takers. Sunday we took a nice long boat ride out for a swim, and then made a drift through the walleye school we had run across out there…
Nothing like drifting and erie dearie and getting that tug…not quite the feel of a fly rod, but it definitely is a blast…
Both of our guys below made it back to the water to fight another day…
"Hey, America: Time to get excited! Why? Because a year and a half from now you could be eating the very first genetically-modified animal approved for public consumption: The AquAdvantage® salmon! Assuming it passes the approval process, which began Wednesday."
With the cool evening's around this time of year...the Salmon are starting their annual dance in Northern Michigan...
Streamside Custom Rod & Guide Service has been taking in the action, showing great results. If Schmidt's right on his prediction from last year...it maybe Epic up there in a few weeks...
Be sure to check out the sites, reports, and give them a holler if you're in the area...great guys, good people, and some of the best fly fishermen I've seen...
Well there was some fishing this week…noting outstanding, but there is no better feeling in the world then casting a fly rod…
I ended up fishing a rain storm (thus no pictures), with Conklin on Saturday. Figuring that a cooler rain and cold front would start the fall transition, we jumped on the opportunity. All in all, about 6 fish caught, and surprisingly 4 of them were perch. Turns out that beyond the shelf we were fishing, a school must have been hovering, and were anxious to take any minnow pattern we threw. The bass were small, which is a good sign of younger year classes…
I did manage to rookie-up a fish that I wish I had back…
Casting into the perch, I was turned talking with Conklin when the rod nearly shot out of my hands. Within seconds the 3x tippet snapped and I was left to wonder what had taken that bugger. Honest opinion has to be a carp…but I have seen some massive bass in the pond, so I suppose anything is possible.
As my grandfather would say…the back of summer is broken, and I’m ready to get back into my fishing routine…
"It also might have broken up the oil into small enough particles that the microbes are eating it, explaining why they are suddenly unhealthy. If that is the case, they warned, the rest of the food chain in the Gulf could be tainted by the oil."
