Dennis RODman has nothing on Brian...

Well Brian's big project had a bit of a hold up...

HOWEVER...he's had some time to concentrate on some other projects, and we thank him greatly for the ROD porn...

Ahhh...I Know Him...

"Boz" sent me this picture earlier in the week...and then I'm flipping through the blogs today and Moly Chum's got him for SLOB OF THE MONTH...

We're digging it Greg...congrats on the nomination...
Hopefully we're fishing sometime in August this summer...in the meantime, check out his website...

Quote of the Week...

"And just when folks are drinking themselves crazy,
the fever in the cabin starts to break,
and just when life itself seems so hopeless,
the thawing of the ice upon the lake,
and the sky and sea and trees all dance together,
in a thousand shades of emerald and blue,
and the promise of that long awaited day at the beach...finally comes true...

Summer sun, winter snow...
The children come and the old folks go,
Sun comes up, we go round and round...
It's simply so damn complicated in this Northern Town..."

OK OK...MAYBE I DIDN'T REALLY HAVE IT...

"Perhaps after 34 years it's time for us to confess we invented cello scrotum,"

Hopefully "Fly Fishing Elbow" isn't far behind...think about it...

What a Douche

At first, Coutts reportedly denied shooting the eagle but later confessed under questioning by Game and Fish officers. Coutts was charged with killing an eagle and possessing raptor parts. Shooting an eagle is considered a high misdemeanor.

Trout

I do my best
to keep pointlessness
at bay. But here,
wet above my
knees, I let if fly.
Here, hot and cold,
fingers thick with
thinking, I try to
tie the fly and look
for the net, loosening
the philosophical
knot of why I came
here today, not yet
knowing whether
I’ll free or fry
the rainbows
and browns once
they’re mine.

Steelheading: Week #16

Well they're all still locked up like a Barbie Doll on Christmas Eve...and things aren't looking much better in the coming 10 days...

Spent the weekend on the family scene, and tying a few creations...including my first real attempt at a spey pattern...

Anyways, things are slow...

Looks like that bathroom that in torn apart will get some more attention this week...

Some of the flies added in...

First Spey...should fish...

Stop The Insanity

"The proposed artificial island would smother up to 140 acres of seafloor -- which is nearly 14 times the size of Giants Stadium! At the ocean's surface, the island itself will be 86 acres. In addition, there will be large exclusion zones surrounding the facility and the tanker ships. The ships can be nearly four football fields in length. Such an island has never been constructed in the open ocean and ASIG has no experience in offshore construction or with LNG."

UPDATE: Steelheading Week #15 And Beyond

Well...Rivers are good for hockey games...that's about it. They've been frozen completely since about Friday...and have been unfishable for about two weeks...

This all is killing the soul. All the water i see now is in a solid state...and it's not pretty. It's tying mode this weekend, and since Amy's gone...I'll be filling up the boxes...

CHICAGO -

Dan and I had a great time, with some pictures coming. The Vietnamese do have some interesting stores in ILL. Anyways, it's good to finally be home...

Lessons learned in Chicago:
  • Don't go to Boytown...the name speaks for itself
  • Hair Dresser's really aren't able to hold a conversation for longer then 35 minutes...
  • The Vietnamese grocery stores have very low ceilings...and lots of squid, in many different forms...
  • Thai food is great for hangovers
  • Kohler showers are AMAZING - Single guys, you'll want to invest...check out their DIGITAL ONE:
  • All you can drink parties...well worth $20 dollars
  • Taking cabs when drunk and it's zero degrees is a must
  • Dan...Waitresses are always flirts on the job...they are not hitting on you!
  • Indian bus drivers yelling because you broke the ticket machine...not fun...do not try...
  • Pay attention to your surroundings on a bus
  • Dress warm ANYTIME you are in CHICAGO...
  • Make sure ALL liquids and gels are out of carry-on bags...they tend to yell and talk in strong tones when they're inspecting your bags...
  • Try your best to avoid sitting next to any cave women on your flight...they tend to encroach on your personal space
  • END LESSON: STAY OUT OF CITIES WHEN AT ALL POSSIBLE
Pictures coming when Dan sends them...

"SYDNEY (AFP) – An Australian state is offering internationally what it calls "the best job in the world" -- earning a top salary for lazing around a beautiful tropical island for six months.

The job pays 150,000 Australian dollars (105,000 US dollars) and includes free airfares from the winner's home country to Hamilton Island on the Great Barrier Reef, Queensland's state government announced on Tuesday.

In return, the "island caretaker" will be expected to stroll the white sands, snorkel the reef, take care of "a few minor tasks" -- and report to a global audience via weekly blogs, photo diaries and video updates.

The successful applicant, who will stay rent-free in a three-bedroom beach home complete with plunge pool and golf buggy, must be a good swimmer, excellent communicator and be able to speak and write English."

Steelheading: Week #14

Well as my last post revealed, the rivers have finally begun their mid winter lock up. They went from fishing the beginning of the week, to ice jams at the moment. Reports from the early week had many fish littered throughout the systems. Many of the guides and avid fishermen have been able to get multiple fish days nymphing. Afternoons swinging have been OK, but with the water temps so low, repeated drifts with eggs have been the best bet...

So with the icing, I've begun the mid winter clean-up, which blows...cleaning Christmas, redoing bathrooms...

And a guy trip to Chi-Town is on the plate for next weekend...

Anyways, here's a few creations from the bench...I can't give up on fishing for the whole weekend...

Egg Sucking Leach Style...

Compliments to Justin for showing us this quick tie. He's got a scouting expedition on the rivers tomorrow...hoping for something open...

Good Luck!!!

Good Bye Old Friend...

Well they're on the way to being locked up for a good while...

Between the cold river temps we've had...

And the Winter Storm Brewing Outside...

The 10 day forecast isn't calling for anything over 30 degrees...

So while they ice up next weekend, I'll be shipping off to CHI-TOWN for some relaxation with good friend Dan...

Steelheading: Week #13

With the short week home, We didn't get to see much water at home this week...

Saturday was a Christmas Party...though lots of local waters fished...a group swinging struck out, but several others on Nymphs and Indicators cleaned up...

Sunday I managed to coarse Justin out of working the shop to fish...

The morning was a mistake...between miles of walking for only a few casts, we found a few canoes wanting to play leap frog with us for holes...which meant a 5 minute jaunt for them was a 25 minute ordeal for us. After 2 holes of that, and about 3 miles down river (crowds took for the first 1.5 miles), we called it quits...and yours truly took a shitter on the way back...yeah...the morning sucked...and we had no fish notched onto our belts...

The afternoon we moved closer to home and were able to scare up a few...

Justin bagged them all, with 1 indie fishing (Pheasant Tail), and 2 swinging an egg sucking leach. I had a few grabs, but almost only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades...

Anyways, waters are low close to home...with visibility about 2'. Many reports from the week reported that fishing has been very consistent on the home waters...

Anyways, here's Justin's fish porn...All fish were bright as dimes and ran like monkeys on cocaine...

Quote of the Week:

Sorry we're a bit late...

"To go fishing is the chance to wash one's soul with pure air, with the rush of the brook, or with the shimmer of sun on blue water. It brings meekness and inspiration from the decency of nature, charity toward tackle-makers, patience toward fish, a mockery of profits and egos, a quieting of hate, a rejoicing that you do not have to decide a darned thing until next week. And it is discipline in the equality of men - for all men are equal before fish."

- Herbert Hoover

Finishing up the CT PICS...

Nadda for the rest of the trip...weather turned cold, snowy, and the wind and high waters made everything a bit tough....I didn't pound the waters, but I was on them almost every day....Here's the pictures from the rest of the week...

This last trip I decided to head over to the Farmington River...a new piece of water for me, but it was somewhere I'd been wanting to try...

Anyways, the water was high, wind was gusting over 45mph, and pools were impossible to hit...

Thanks to a local outfitter, I found one small back eddy that was supposed to hold fish...Unfortunately the water was impossible for this rookie...

I ended up heading to some local water but at that point the day was shot...

Anyways, Steelheading...Possibly...Sunday...

GAME ON!!!
